Volunteers are essential to everything we do here at Hollingdean and Fiveways Support Café and Foodbank!

Volunteers are the driving force behind foodbanks. There are thousands of volunteers across the UK, helping The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network get emergency food to people in crisis. We want you to enjoy volunteering and there are lots of ways to get involved. Whatever role you choose, you will make a real difference to the life of someone in crisis.

CURRENT VACANCIES

 

1.Foodbank Operations Volunteers

(needed –  regular Tuesdays 2.30pm-4.30pm)

Tasks include:

  • Preparing the church hall for the Foodbank and Support Café space ahead of opening the following day. (NB This involves lifting when moving tables, chairs, and crates of food that get displayed as required).
  • Weighing and putting away food donations and bought supplies and packing all the food parcels in preparation for the Foodbank.

There are duties which may be an exception to the description, such as delivering food parcels (not mandatory and scheduled in advance, if you have access to a vehicle), collecting food donations from donors in the area such as local stores or schools (not mandatory and scheduled in advance, if you have access to a vehicle), and various other on-site tasks. These will be communicated in advance and are not required nor asked of often.

 

2. Foodbank and Support Café Volunteer

(needed –  regular Wednesdays 9.30am-3pm or either a morning or afternoon shift 9.30am-12.30pm or 12pm-3pm)
This is a client facing role.

Tasks include: 

  • Last minute set up and take down at the end of the day
  • Serving drinks/cakes in the cafe
  • Using the computer on the reception desk (not essential)
  • Serving on our choose table
  • Befriending clients – talking to them, making them feel welcome, signposting to internal and external support
  • Further opportunities to do some front line support if volunteers would like.

3.Supplies Driver

(needed – Monday OR Tuesday 8.30/9am – 11am)
For this role it is essential you have a car and a clean driving license.

Tasks include:

  • Driving to Bookers or other supermarkets to buy stock for Foodbank and  – dropping them off at St Richards Church Hall. 
  • Food collections from Olio or other donors

 

4.Social Media Co-ordinator

2 hours or less anytime, Sunday – Tuesday

Needed – a volunteer who is competent using social media and would be able to update our Instagram and Facebook accounts on a weekly basis.
